The Christian Education Committee strives to educate the members and friends of our church to become God’s love in the community.
Infants to Elementary School – We currently offer a fully staffed nursery and childcare for infants through age five. Worship activity bags are available for the elementary school children who wish to remain in the sanctuary with their families during the church service.
Middle & High School – Our youth take turns serving as liturgists on the first Sunday of each month. Each February our youth collect monetary donations and non-perishable food items for “Souper” Bowl Sunday, all donated to the local Community Sharing food bank. Confirmation classes are co-led by Reverend Karen Hill and members of the Christian Education Committee. Other youth activities led by volunteers include hiking, camping, snow park excursions, and summer gatherings at local lakes.
Adult Education – A large part of the continuing Christian Education in our church involves book study. A Sunday Book Group meets every couple of months to read and discuss a particular book. The book selections are diverse and thought provoking, ranging from memoirs, spirituality, current events, and Biblical studies. The most recent study was of the book Shepherding the Seasons: Stories from a Life of Two Flocks, led by author Catherine Foote. We have also hosted well-attended community book events.
Small groups are regularly offered during Advent and Lent. We are currently using materials created by Sanctified Art, an artist collective that provides visual art, poetry, and other creative resources for liturgical worship.
Annual Events – The Christian Education Committee hosts a variety of special events during the year following the Sunday church service. These include an Easter egg hunt in the Daugherty Garden, Pentecost, Graduation Sunday, and an Advent Festival.
