I have served as music director and organist at First Presbyterian Church Cottage Grove since February 2015, after working for over 15 years in music ministry in Europe. I received my M.A. in organ performance at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, in 2006, and my B.Mus. in harpsichord performance at Hanze University for Applied Science in Groningen, Netherlands, in 2008. My artistic training included voice lessons and orchestral conducting, which laid the foundation for my later work as a choral conductor. In 2017, I graduated with honors from a post-bacc program in pipe organ restoration science at the LOTO - short for “Landelijke Opleiding tot Orgeladviseur” (which in English means: “National School for Pipe Organ Adviser”) in ’s Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. I am currently a PhD-candidate for (ethno-)musicology at the University of Oregon, focusing my research on colonial pipe organs in the Peruvian Andes. From 1999 to 2014 I worked as an independent music professional, giving recitals and teaching masterclasses (mainly in my specialty, Early Music) in most parts of Europe, in Asia, and in the Americas. At the same time, I held appointments at churches of various denominations in Austria (until 2007) and the Netherlands (after 2007), in which I fulfilled a broad range of roles: organist, pianist, choir director, music director, music coordinator, ensemble leader. I am thankful for the plethora of experiences I gained this way: experiences with different kinds of music, with different jobs in music ministry, and with different ways of worshipping. First Presbyterian Church in Cottage Grove is known for its active music program, which is comparable in size and diversity to that of a church with a much bigger congregation. I am happy to be working with a team of volunteers and professionals that are open towards - and proficient in - such a wide range of musical styles. We value inclusiveness in our music ministry - everybody is invited to participate, regardless their level of experience, ager, gender, race, or religious identity. If you would like to join our choir or fulfill another role in our worship music, please feel welcome join us!
