For me, First Presbyterian Church of Cottage Grove is more than a place of worship; it is a community of thoughtful individuals who share similar beliefs and values and care for one another. Our church is a lively part of our community. I am fortunate to be able to connect to so many organizations within Cottage Grove, because of my relation to our church. I feel “at home” among the warm faces that greet me each week. My role as Nursery Coordinator allows me to build relationships with our church’s youngest members.
I have had the pleasant experience of growing up in Cottage Grove, Oregon. My earliest memories are those from Cottage Grove; my neighborhood, attending school, activities, and friendships. Throughout my childhood, I attended school in Cottage Grove; my first experience being a Montessori classroom held in our church many years ago. From there, I went to elementary, middle, and high school in Cottage Grove. Being raised in a small town, I chose to attend one of the smaller public universities in Oregon for my education.
In 2010, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Southern Oregon University. At an early age, I developed an interest in young children, which led me to pursue my profession with them. I enjoyed learning about children through my coursework and hands-on experiences, giving me a balanced and diverse perspective of how to accommodate children and their families in an ever-changing educational system. I am able to continue my passion through my work with First Presbyterian Church in our nursery, which brings such joy to my heart!
Since I was young, music has always been an interest and an emotional outlet for me. Growing up, I was enrolled in choirs at school and was part of a community children’s choir in addition to my education. In my early years, I also began taking piano lessons, which continued through high school and beyond. Now I play the piano for enjoyment and during worship services on occasion. After graduating from college, I joined The Cottage Bells, our church’s handbell choir. Our weekly rehearsals are a highlight for me, and something that pulls me through challenging situations that I have encountered during my life journey. I have come to realize that music is part of my identity, as it shapes my character and is an important part of who I am.
It is truly an honor to be a part of such a wonderful family. As a progressive church, I appreciate how warm and welcoming we are toward those who may appear different from us. In the gospel of Matthew, The Greatest Commandment is a reminder to “love your neighbor as yourself”. We try to see the best in people, and we believe everyone belongs.
